precauciones para la vista en verano

Precautions for eyesight in summer

Summer has arrived and this year, more than ever, we all want to spend long days at the beach, afternoons by the pool and enjoying ourselves on a terrace. Just like at this time we must take special care and protection of our skin, we must also take precautions for eyesight in summer.

These are the basic measures to take care of our visual health and the problems that will be avoided if you carry them out daily.

1: Always wear approved sunglasses.

It is the first and most important of all precautions. If your sunglasses are not approved, no matter how wonderful their design is, do not use them. A lens that does not protect is also harmful since it acts like a plastic between your eyes and the sun.

For a lens to protect, it must filter 100% of UV rays. We must also take into account its category.

Knowing how to choose the category of sunglasses, as one of the precautions for sight.

Usually we will find categories from 0 to 4. The first one is the one that absorbs the least percentage of sun rays and therefore allows them to pass. For outdoors, beach, pool... the appropriate category is 3, it absorbs up to 90% of the sun's rays. Important! Category 4 is not recommended for driving, since the blackout and absorption level is so high that it should only be used for high mountain or sea sports.

2: The hydration of the eye must be greater and more continuous.

Exposure to air conditioners for most of the day increases dryness and dehydration of the eye. You can solve this by applying artificial tears or moisturizing drops so that the eye is always hydrated.

3: If you wear contact lenses, do not abuse.

Contact lens wearers increase the hours they wear during the summer. Change them when appropriate and do not exceed the recommended hours (8-10 hours). The best solution is the use of silicone hydrogel contact lenses that constantly hydrate the eye, avoiding dryness and visual fatigue.

4: DO NOT open your eyes underwater!

Neither in the sea nor in the pool. It can be a source of infection and the products they contain, such as chlorine, impair the defenses of our eyes.

Thinking about eye precautions during the summer is more important than ever. Think that your eyes are also, among many other things, skin, and that like this you have to take care of them.
